GIS Mission Statement
To plan and implement an enterprise supported distributed Geographic Information System (GIS) through collaborative partnerships between the GIS Division and all other City departments.

History and Purpose
The GIS Division was created on July 1, 2000 under the Office of the City Manager. The Division grew out of the need to take the digital map data that had been under development by various City departments since 1990, and move it to the next level. This was accomplished by first adding intelligence to the mapping data by connecting the digital maps to databases that contain information about the features on each map. The Division next introduced a web site, available to all City staff, that allowed them access to the City's entire geographic library. This was a major step in achieving one of the Division's primary goals, to facilitate better decision making city-wide by providing easy access to the City's geographic resources. The GIS Division, now under the Community Development Dept, is now pleased to provide this same information to the public through the City's Public GIS Portal. We in the GIS Division hope you will find this website informative and useful, and welcome any feedback you might have on the system.

Online GIS
The Online GIS is intended to provide basic property, zoning ordinance, and general plan land use information. All the tabs provide the ability to search by address or assessor parcel number (APN). Individual properties can also be located using the navigation tools. The Property Info tab contains aerial photography and parcel boundaries. When the Identify All tool is used to select a property the Online GIS returns property information such as; APN, address, zoning, and other relevant information. The Zoning and GP Land tabs are more specific, they provide a thematic map for viewing the Zoning and GP Land Use designation for the entire city. All three tabs contain links to associated documents such as; Zoning Ordinance Articles, GPLU definitions, etc. More information is included within the Community Development Department Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
